In a dishwashing machine, liquid containing food particles flows to the bottom of a tub 11 and into a sump 13 by way of a foraminous screen 15 and tubular apertured screen 17. Liquid passes through screen 15 directly into a receiver 20 in the sump and back to a pump 12 to be recirculated through conduit 22, the solids being retained on the screen 15 and washed into a centre opening 16. The solids then flow through apertures 29, Fig. 5 (not shown), into the tubular screen 17, the liquid flowing through the screen 17 and the solids to the bottom of the sump and out to waste through conduit 21. A barrier screen 26 with larger apertures than screen 17 causes a build up of pressure between it and screen 17 so slowing down the liquid flow through the screen 17 to prevent wedging of the solids in the apertures. To clean the filter cleansing liquid is directed through the system so that solids are flushed from the inner surface of the screen 17 and out through conduit 21 to waste.</p> |
