<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coupling structure of a steering transmission shaft and a yoke of a universal joint which performs a fail-safe function when a welded portion is broken, and enables an operator to clearly recognize the occurrence of failure. <P>SOLUTION: When the welded portion to fix an intermediate shaft 5 and a first yoke 41 of a first universal joint 4 is broken, a coupling protrusion 56 of circumference 52a of an insertion protrusion 52 of the intermediate shaft 5 is arranged to be engaged with a coupling recess 57 of an insertion recess 54 of the first yoke 41 with a predetermined amount of play Q1 in the direction of rotation (equivalent to a circumferential direction C1), which enables steering thereof.
