<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device capable of reducing in size while ensuring high reliability, and further to provide a projector. <P>SOLUTION: A light source device 2 according to the present invention comprises: a laser light source 9 for emitting excitation light; a phosphor wheel 12 for reflecting the excitation light and fluorescent light while transmitting a part of the excitation light and receiving the excitation light so as to emit the fluorescent light; a dichroic mirror 10 disposed on one optical path of the excitation light between the laser light source 9 and the phosphor wheel 12; and a quarter wavelength plate 11 disposed on other optical path of the excitation light between the phosphor wheel 12 and the dichroic mirror 10. The dichroic mirror 10 has polarization separation characteristics for transmitting a first polarization component of the excitation light passing through a forward optical path while reflecting a second polarization component of the excitation light passing through a return optical path and the fluorescent light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
