摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic member which is used for obtaining a rare-earth magnet having high coercivity even in a high-temperature environment, a powder compact suitable for a raw material of the magnetic member, and a powder for the magnetic member superior in formability. <P>SOLUTION: Each magnetic particle 1 constituting the powder for the magnetic member is formed of less than 40 vol% of a hydrogen compound (NdH<SB POS="POST">2</SB>) 3 of a rare-earth element and the balance consisting of an iron-containing substance 2 including Fe and Fe-B alloy. The hydrogen compound 3 dispersedly exists in a phase of the iron-containing substance 2. The magnetic particle 1 has a heat-resistant precursor layer 4 including a particle 4a from a supply source, which is formed of a supply source material of a rare-earth element (for instance, hydrogen compound : DyH<SB POS="POST">2</SB>) containing a rare-earth element formed on the surface. The powder can obtain superior formability by making the phase of the iron-containing substance 2 uniformly exist in the magnetic particle 1. The magnetic member having a heat-resistant coercive force layer 6 formed on a surface of an alloy particle 5 is obtained by heat-treating the powder compact formed of the powder having the heat-resistant precursor layer 4.
