<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device, portable electronic device control method and program allowing character input with improved user convenience. <P>SOLUTION: On a display D3, a character input control unit 172 rotates, about a touched character "na", a surrounding area C1 in response to a predetermined operation detected by a detection unit 12.
