<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor drive apparatus that prevents a drop in boost voltage when high power output is required. <P>SOLUTION: A booster circuit 20 of a motor drive apparatus 2 comprises a sub booster circuit 30 and a sub booster circuit 35 connected in series. The sub booster circuit 30 includes a booster coil 31, a boosting switching element 32, a reducing switching element 33, and an output capacitor 34, and outputs a boosted battery voltage Vin to the sub booster circuit 35. The sub booster circuit 35 has the same configuration as the sub booster circuit 30, and further boosts the voltage boosted by the sub booster circuit 30 to output a boost voltage Vout to a motor drive circuit 25. An overall boost ratio of the booster circuit 20 can be the product of sub boost ratios of the two sub booster circuits 30, 35 to generate a sufficiently high boost voltage Vout.
