This light emitting element is provided with an organic EL element that has a light emitting surface and generates light from the light emitting surface and a structural layer provided directly or indirectly on the light emitting surface of the organic EL element. The structural layer is formed so as to have a textured structure that includes first row that extends in a first direction parallel to the surface on the side of the structural layer opposite from the organic EL element, a second row that extends in a second direction parallel to that surface and orthogonal to the first direction, and a third row that extends in a third direction parallel to that surface and orthogonal to the first direction and the second direction.
