<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shutting device for an opening and closing body, which has a small number of components and a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: A shutting device for an opening and closing body comprises a catcher 30, a catcher guide 65 which actuates the catcher 30, and a locking mechanism 90 to retain the catcher 30 at a standby position. The catcher 30 is composed of a couple of capturing pieces 31 and 32 integrally formed of a resin which grip a capture target member 11 from both sides through elastic deformation for capturing. In a natural state, the catcher 30 is in a standby state to allow the capture target member 11 to be received between the capturing pieces 31 and 32. The catcher guide 65 has a striker part 60 which lies between the capturing pieces 31 and 32 to keep the catcher 30 in the standby state and is pushed and moved toward a back portion of the catcher 30 by the capture target member 11 when the opening and closing body closes. The capturing pieces 31 and 32 are elastically deformed toward each other in inward direction by a guide part 61 interlocked therewith, so as to lead to a capture state.
