[Also in Division G3] A system of automatic load control for a generating station which may be part of a system, for apportioning generation between a number of stations or units in a station for producing power at the least cost comprises establishing an error signal proportional to the difference between signals representative of desired and actual generation, which error signal adjusts the loading of the station or stations. A station may be sub-divided into a number of units where it is desired to apportion the load within the station. The error signal may be converted into a control signal which functions as an index of the incremental generating cost, several control signals being fed to an apparatus which adjusts the stations outputs of each so that the incremental costs of each station are equal. The control signals may be adjusted to allow for the cost of transmission losses. Under transient load conditions the action of the apparatus is delayed to allow the various stations to feed the load proportionately within their maximum outputs, which proportions are then gradually re-adjusted if necessary, if the system is not working at the optimum economy. An error signal representative of the difference between actual and desired output is fed into a master controller 1 which transmits through a proportioning device 4 a control signal to station controllers 2a. The control signal may be modified at 5 to allow for line losses. The station may be divided into a number of units and a participation adjuster 8 determines the proportion of station load to be generated by each unit. A differential control action unit permits through a servo amplifier 10 and a control motor the immediate adjustment of a turbo alternator set or sets 12, which adjustment is subsequently modified by a unit 15 which is responsive to an error signal produced by a unit 13 which compares the control signal with the revised incremental cost developed from a function representative of the machine output. Selector switches 6, 16 change the station and units respectively from incremental cost control to pre-set automatic control, and a switch 18 provides a fixed incremental cost signal.</p>
