<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a state of wrong orientation of a holding apparatus to a processing apparatus, and further facilitate treatment of the holding apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A holding apparatus for receiving specimen slides 1 has: a holder 30 for handling the holding apparatus; and at least two identification units 2a, 2b.
