The present invention provides a sending method, comprising setting an indication of a DRX period type in discontinuous reception, wherein the setting the indication of the DRX period type comprises adding at least one bit to a load corresponding to a media access control element (MCE) identification, so as to indicate a long DRX period, or setting a new MCE identification to indicate a long period, and sending the set indication of the DRX period type to a terminal. By adding the load corresponding to the MCE identification or setting a new MCE identification, the terminal is instructed to enter the DRX long period. Meanwhile, in the case that both the DRX long period and DRX short period are configured, the terminal may enter the DRX long period directly according to the instruction, thereby improving the power saving effect of the terminal.
