The present invention relates to a solar cell having a transparent front electrode whereby efficiency is increased. According to one aspect of the present invention, the solar cell comprises: a PN junction semiconductor layer made using a crystalline wafer having a P type semiconductor layer and an N type semiconductor layer; a front-surface electrode made using a transparent conductive oxide (TCO) joined to a first surface of the PN junction semiconductor layer; and a rear-surface electrode joined to a second surface opposite the first surface of the PN junction semiconductor layer.
