The present invention concerns microRNAs (miRNA), in particular mir-140, as an indicator of a tissue status or a disease such as osteoarthritis (OA) and as a target molecule for the discovery of a substance for the treatment of a joint disease. Further provided are methods and compounds for investigation, analysis and/or treatment of a joint disease,especially OA.
