The present invention provides a method and system for cooling a lithium secondary battery which quickly cool the lithium secondary battery. Particularly, a conductive connection port is connected to at least one of the positive electrode terminal and the negative electrode terminal of the secondary battery. Also, a refrigerant contacts the connection port to cool the battery cells. Here, the refrigerant may be water or air, and a refrigerant tube may be formed of a synthetic resin. Also, the refrigerant tube has one end welded and fixed to the electrode terminals. According to the structure described above, a cooling unit may be disposed on one side of the secondary battery to prevent the internal temperature of the secondary battery from being increased to above a predetermined temperature when the internal temperature of the secondary battery is increased due to abnormal heat generation by the secondary battery. Furthermore, the cooling unit may quickly cool the secondary battery to improve thermal stability.
