An umbrella hub 14 for connecting frame members 18 of an umbrella to an umbrella pole 12. End portions of the frame members 18 have transversely extending hinge pins 21 which provide for hinged connection of the frame members to the umbrella hub. The umbrella hub 18 is fixed to the umbrella pole 12 and comprises three steel plates comprising a central disc 24, an upper retention disc 26 and a lower retention disc 28 which are releasably fastened to one another by means of bolts. The central disc 24 defines radial slots 40 within which the end portions of the frame members 20 are received. The discs 26 and 28 similarly define radial slots which are in register with the slots 40 of the central disc. The central disc further defines discontinuous perpendicular slots 42 in which the hinge pins 20 are located. The discs 26 and 28 overlie the slots 42 thereby capturing the hinge pins 20 in the slots 42. |
