A flexible protective outer casing 8 for a flexible shaft 24 comprises in combination a pair of continuous strip members 10, 12, each having a transverse cross-section including a web 14 and a pair of lugs or flanges 16 held spaced apart by the web and defining a channel between them, the members being formed to substantially concentric helices, staggered to overlap one another and presenting channels towards one another, the flanges of each member fitting in the channel of the other member to interlock adjacent turns of the members, each flange being in contact on its inner side with the inner side of a flange of the channel it fits in, and on the outer side with the outer side of the flange on the adjacent turn of the strip, and the inner member defining a bore 22 for the flexible shaft. As shown, the shaft 24, of known kind, has secured thereon bushings 26 of nylon, " Teflon " (Registered Trade Mark) or other plastic. |
