The appliance (1) has a control device (22) electrically coupled with tap nodes (31, 33) that are located on an electrical circuit of a drive motor (4) i.e. universal motor, for actuating the drive motor. Electric voltages (UA, UF) sloping at windings (6, 7) of the drive motor is measured at the tap nodes. The control device determines winding resistance of the windings depending on tapped voltage and operating temperature of the drive motor depending on the winding resistance, so that the drive motor is controlled depending on the operating temperature. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a household appliance.
