The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases, allergic diseases or asthma, containing a Diospyros blancoi A. DC. extract as an active ingredient. More specifically, a Diospyros blancoi A. DC. extract inhibits the generation of NO and PGE2 which rapidly increases due to the induction of inflammation, which suppresses the transfer of NF-?B into a nucleus, thereby inhibiting the expression of iNOS and COX-2 and remarkably reducing the amounts of TNF-a, IL-1ß, IL-4 and IL-13. In addition, the Diospyros blancoi A. DC. extract inhibits eosinophilia in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in the ovalbumin-induced asthma mouse model and inhibits the secretion of immunoglobulins and chemokines in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and blood. Therefore, the Diospyros blancoi A. DC. extract can be beneficially used as an active ingredient for compositions used for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases, allergic diseases or asthma.
