The purpose of the present invention is to provide a shock absorber having stable and good vibration-damping properties, and a metal cover configured to be attached using the shock absorber. A shock absorber (10) is placed between a bolt boss (41) provided on an exhaust manifold (1), which is a vibration source, and a heat insulator (3) so as to link the bolt boss (41) provided on the exhaust manifold (1) to the heat insulator (3) while damping vibration from the bolt boss (41) provided on the exhaust manifold (1) to the heat insulator (3). The shock absorber (10) comprises: a spiral multi-step spring (50) for damping vibration; a grommet (20) for coupling the spiral multi-step spring (50) and the heat insulator (3); and a collar member (30) disposed between the spiral multi-step spring (50) and an installation bolt (42) tightened to the bolt boss (41) provided on the exhaust manifold (1), wherein the spiral multi-step spring (50) is formed of a wire having a spiral shape when seen in plan view.
