The burner (14) has a gas burner body (15) comprising gas outlet opening (16), where a disk type thermogenerator (25) is arranged above the gas burner body. The thermogenerator has same shape as a gas burner. The thermogenerator is held above the gas burner body by a flexible/resilient holding unit and pushed upward to bear against a lower face of a pot (30) that is located above the gas burner, where an abutment is subjected to action of a spring force. The gas burner openings are arranged in a plane, where the thermogenerator is arranged parallel to the plane of the burner openings. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a gas cooktop comprising a gas burner (2) a method for operating the gas cooktop.
