PURPOSE: A transmission control device and method of an auto transmission are provided to reduce speed change time by estimating a next change gear step and selecting a gear corresponding to an estimation target change gear step. CONSTITUTION: A transmission control unit determines whether a current change gear step is R or N(103). The transmission control unit establishes an estimation target change gear step as one of D or R(105). The transmission control unit selects a gear corresponding to the estimation target change gear step(107). The transmission control unit transfers speed change order signal to a transmission and changes gears. The transmission control unit determines whether the current change gear step is higher than a final target change gear step or not during changing the gears(113). |
