<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and efficiently manufacture a display element while limiting dielectric breakdown in a TFT element 13 or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display element aims to produce a TFT array substrate 10 from a mother substrate 100, and includes steps of fabricating a plurality of pixel electrodes 12 and TFT elements 13 in a matrix in a liquid crystal display element forming area M on the mother substrate 100, fabricating a plurality of gate electrode lines 16 and/or source electrode lines 17 to be connected to a plurality of switching elements 13 in the plurality of pixel electrodes 12, fabricating connecting lines 19 to connect the lines 16, 17 outside the area M, and segmenting the TFT array substrate 10 along the peripheral edge of the area M.
