<p>Welding apparatus (1), with a device (2) for forming a welded seam (3) on workpieces (6), includes a nozzle (7) for applying a jet of cryogenic medium (8) onto the workpiece surface (5) in the region where the seam is to be formed. The spacing between the nozzle and the welding device is at least 5 (preferably 5-20, especially 5-10) cm. An independent claim is included for a corresponding welding process, in which (a) a jet of cryogenic medium (8) is applied onto the workpiece surface (5) in the region where the welded seam is to be formed, to clean and cool the region, and (b) the workpieces are welded together in the cleaned region.</p> |
