PURPOSE: A photographing device and a photographing method are provided to reduce operating time by immediately starting an AF(Auto Focusing) operation from a current focus position because a direction of the focus position is estimated based on two contrast evaluation values corresponding to two photographing optical systems having the different focus positions. CONSTITUTION: A photographing device comprises two photographing optical system, two photographing elements, a contrast evaluation value outputting unit(61), a focus position detecting unit(62), a focus position control unit(63), a focus position discriminating unit(64). The two photographing optical systems can change a focus position. The two photographing elements convert subject phase formed by the each photographing optical systems into images. The contrast evaluation outputting unit outputs contrast evaluation value of the subject included in the images. The focus position detecting unit detects the focus position with respect to the subject based on the contrast evaluation values at a plurality of focus positions. The focus position controlling unit controls the focus position of the one photographing optical system and the focus position of the other photographing optical system to be spaced from the current focus position at a predetermined amount before the focus position detecting unit detects the focus position. In the state the focus positions of the each photographing optical systems are spaced from the current focus position, the focus position direction discrimination unit discriminates the focus position focusing on the subject is positioned in which direction with respect to the current focus position of the each photographing optical system based on the two contrast evaluation values output by corresponding to the each photographing optical system. |
