A piston of a liquid meter is packed by an hydrocarbonresistant, synthetic rubber sealing washer 8 which is bonded to the peripheral edge of a piston disc 2 and has two axially oppositely directed sealing lips 11 that contact the cylinder wall and are separated by an integral portion 9 which is so dimensioned that when in the dry or unswollen condition it does not contact the cylinder wall and when swollen in use by immersion in the metered liquid it produces a force tending to deflect the lips about their roots away from the cylinder wall and thus counteracts the increase in sealing pressure that would otherwise result due to the swelling of the lips.
