689,225. Inhalers. SHARP & DOHME, Inc. May 23, 1951, No. 12110/51. Class 81 (ii). In an atomising inhaler a mixture of liquic inhalant and air is expelled through a nozzle and the nozzle is surrounded by an annular conduit which supplies a stream of air serving tc confine the jet of medicament and to prevent it from settling on the lower surfaces of the nostril. Liquid medicament is enclosed in a container 10 which may be compressible or connected to an external air bulb. When the contents are thus subjected to pressure a supply of medicament passes up the tube 25, which extends to the bottom of the container, and air is expelled through peripheral passages to a mixing chamber 23 and nozzle 19, so that a fine mist issues therefrom. An annular conduit 15 surrounds the nozzle and communicates through ports at its lower end with the external air, so that, when air is inhaled into the nostril 14, the stream of air through the conduit 15 prevents contact of the medicament with the lower walls of the nostril.
|
