PURPOSE: A relay station-based uplink communicating apparatus in a wireless communication system and a method for the same are provided to increase the data transmission efficiency of the system by minimizing the interference of a base station. CONSTITUTION: The transmit/receive transition gap and the receive/transmit transition gap of a relay station is transmitted from the relay station to a base station while the relay station accesses network(702). The transmit/receive transition gap and the receive/transmit transition gap are physical times for converting transmitting and receiving modes of the stations. A time interval between an uplink relay zone and an access zone in the relay station or an idle time between frames used in the relay station is determined(704, 706). The time interval or the idle time is transmitted to the relay station(708).
