[Also in Division D2] A process for disintegrating wet-strength paper or fibre board comprising treating the material in a pulper having a rotor for effecting circulation and members for cutting or shearing the material into pieces which are fed into a mill and disintegrated to fibres is characterized in that the mean value for the greatest dimension of the material leaving the pulper is between 10 mm. and the smallest diameter of the inlet pipe of the mill. The pulper may be as described in Specification 897,207 and the mill as described in Specification 930,285. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a pulper 1 having a mill 2 connected in series therewith. The pulper may have a screen the openings of which each have their largest dimension in the range from 10 mm. to the smallest diameter of the inlet pipe of the mill. In a modification, the screen is connected between the pulper and the mill so that material rejected by the screen is returned to the pulper. In a further modification, the screen is mounted after the mill so that material rejected by the screen is returned to the mill. The two modifications may be combined and two or more mills, or pulpers, may be combined in series. A separator may be provided between the pulper and the mill.</p> |
