The method involves generating a hierarchy group of pyramid-transformed image tiles (K) in a central data center (2), where the image tiles are deposited in an image tile memory (26). An internet application (17) is run over a web browser at clients (3a, 3c) that are connected with the data center. An URL containing information about the resolution of the image tile and the areas covered by the image is determined by the internet application for each image tile. The image tiles are loaded from the image tile memory and displayed by the internet application by accessing the respective URL. An independent claim is also included for a device for displaying medical image data.
