Catalyst for producing chlorine by electrolysis of an electrolyte comprising chlorine-ion, comprises: at least one of the noble metal from the transition group (iron, ruthenium, rhodium, lead, osmium, iridium, platinum or an oxide of these noble metals); at least a finely divided carbon modification (diamond, doped diamond, fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, glassy carbon or graphite); and optionally at least a valve metal and/or a valve metal oxide. Independent claims are also included for: (1) producing an electrode for producing the chlorine, comprising applying a layer made from at least a compound comprising carbon from diamond, doped diamond, fullerenes or carbon nanotubes and optionally at least a valve metal and/or a valve metal oxide, and a noble metal and/or an oxide of these metals on a base material comprising a valve metal from titanium, zirconium, tungsten, tantalum or niobium, where a mixture made from a powder of the carbon-modification, a solvent and a soluble noble metal compound and optionally a valve metal compound soluble in the solvent is applied on the base material, and drying and/or sintering to remove the solvents; and (2) the electrode, obtained by the above mentioned method for producing chlorine by electrolysis of the electrolyte comprising chlorine ion, comprising at least an electrically conductive support and a catalytically active coating, where the catalytic active coating comprises the catalyst. |
