A pot burner has a shell of generally cylindrical form and two flame guide rings 7, 8 which form three sub-chambers, each having two rows of air holes in its shell portion. The lower ring 7 is horizontally disposed and has a number of openings therein and the upper ring 8 is a shallow conical ring. The spacing between the rows of holes decrease from rows 1 to 4 and increase from rows 4 to 6. The bottom row of holes 1 may be either all inclined downwardly or all inclined obliquely downwardly; or such holes may be arranged alternately. The holes of rows 2, 3, 4 and 6 are upwardly inclined; the holes of row 5 are horizontal.
