The invention relates to a method whereby a bobbin 4, Fig. 1, can be wound on a drawtwisting machine so as to form both a transfer tail thread 17 and an initial thread end 16 and whereby when the bobbin 4 is removed from the twisting spindle at least one of the two thread ends is automatically attached to a fixation device 7 on the bobbin. The twisting ring 2 is first placed opposite an auxiliary spool 8 below the bobbin 15, the spool 8 taking up waste yarn 14; the ring 2 is then raised in stages to (a) permit the yarn to be caught by a first notch 12 (not shown) in a collar 10 of the spool 8; (b) wind a transfer tail 17 on the bottom of the bobbin 4; (c) cause the package 15 to be wound. Thereafter the ring 2 is lowered to cause (d) the initial thread end 16 to be wound at the bottom of the bobbin 4; (e) the yarn to be caught by a second notch 11 in the collar 10; and (d) more turns to be wound on the auxiliary spool 8. When the fully wound bobbin is pulled upwardly off the bobbin spindle, Fig. 2, the notches 11, 12 cause the lowermost turns of the windings 16, 17 to be pulled downwardly relatively to the bobbin, and these yarn ends are then wedged between a fixation device 7 and the bobbin to hold them fixed to the bobbin. The yarn ends are then severed at 21, 22 between the notches 11, 12 and the fixation device 7. The fixation device 7, Fig. 6 (not shown) may be in the form of a spring-like clip, one arm 25 of which is extended upwardly between inner and outer tubes 5, 6 of the bobbin 4 and the other arm 24 of which lies on the outer surface of the outer tube 6. Various embodiments of the device 7 are disclosed. There may be two fixation means, one for the transfer tail and one for the intial thread end.</p> |
