PURPOSE: A route guiding system using photographic images and a method thereof are provided to accurately recognize a current location even in an area hard to receive wireless signals for location recognition because the current location is recognized by comparing photographed peripheral images and image information staved in advance. CONSTITUTION: A route guiding system using photographic images comprises a photographing device and route guiding device. The photographing device photographs surroundings, thereby outputting photographing image information. The route guiding device comprises a user input unit(120), an image based location information processing unit(200), map information database(150), a route guide information generating unit(140), and a control unit(130). A destination location is input to the user input unit. The location information processing unit receives the photographing image information, thereby recognizing a current location by comparing with local image information saved in advance. The map information database stores map information. The route guide information generating unit generates route guide information by setting a route to the destination location on the map information based on the current location. When the destination location is input to the user input unit, the control unit recognizes the current location using the photographing image information and controls the image based location information processing unit so that the route guide information is generated. |
