PURPOSE: A drive unit for operating a switch of a medium voltage or high voltage switchgear is provided to facilitate the operation thereof and to secure accessibility. CONSTITUTION: A drive unit(10) is connected to the switch of a medium voltage or a high voltage switch gear in order to transport one or more switching elements(5) of one or more switches(4) from a first position to a second position. The drive unit comprises an electric motor(22) and an electric interface(23). The drive unit comprises a first guide element(17). The switch drive(15) comprises an electric motor, an electric interface, and a second guide element(18).
