An apparatus and a method for correcting a tone curve of an image forming apparatus are provided to easily detect and correct a tone curve variation using a color patch composed of a foreground and a background to obtain printed images having no tone distortion. An apparatus for correcting a tone curve of an image forming apparatus includes a color patch printing unit(400), a gray-scale distortion detector(410), and a tone curve corrector(420). The color patch printing unit arranges a plurality of color patches composed of foregrounds and backgrounds in the order of gray-scales of the foreground colors or background colors and prints the color patches. The gray-scale distortion detector judges the degree to which the foreground is recognized for each of the printed color patches, and detects the degree to which the gray-scale corresponding to the foreground or background of each color patch is distorted. The tone curve corrector corrects a tone curve of the image forming apparatus using the detected degree of gray-scale distortion. |
