PURPOSE: A composition containing milk protein having high content of organic calcium is provided to enhance bone weight and strength and to prevent and treat osteoporosis. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating osteoporosis contains milk protein as an active ingredient, prepared by mixing unsterilized whey with water soluble calcium and heating the mixture at 70-100°C for 10-90 minutes. The milk protein contains 40-80 wt% of proteins, 20-40 wt% of ash, and remaining amount of carbohydrate, crude fat, and moisture. The calcium content of the milk protein is 50,000-150,000 ppm. A health food for preventing and treating osteoporosis contains the composition and is manufactured in the form of powder, tablets, capsules, pills, granules, or liquid.
