DETERMINING A TOTAL NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN AN IR IMAGE OBTAINED VIA AN IR IMAGING SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method for determining the number of persons within an IR image is provided to classify a pixel based on a threshold value of a pixel strength value. CONSTITUTION: Intensity values are collected about each pixel of an IR image of a vehicle(502). The ratio of a pixel intensity value is determined. A threshold value of the pixel intensity value is formed(506). A pixel is classified based on the threshold value(508). It is determined whether there are arbitrary pixels to be processed(510). The number of passengers is determined based on pixel classifications(512).
