The invention comprises dyestuffs which in one of the tautomeric forms have the general formula where each of A+B, C+D and E+F is the group R and R<SP>1</SP> being alkyl radicals containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or the group or a substitution product thereof or the group and where G+H is the group or a substitution product thereof and where Me is a heavy metal, and the corresponding metalfree compounds. The dyestuffs are made in substance or on fibres or textile material by heating at temperatures of 100‹C. or above optionally substituted 1-amino-3-imino- 4 : 7- dithia- 4 : 5 : 6 : 7-tetrahydro-isoindolenines or mixtures thereof, if desired in admixture with 3 : 4-dialkyl-2-amino-5-imino-pyrrolenines, unsubstituted or substituted 1-amino-3-imino-isoindolenines or phenyl guanazole, optionally in the presence of heavy metals or heavy metal compounds and preferably in the presence of reducing agents, and in the presence of solvents which may have reducing properties. The 1-amino-3-imino-4: 7-dithia- 4 : 5 : 6 : 7- tetrahydro-isoindolenine used in the process may be replaced by an optionally substituted 1 : 2- dicyano-3 : 6-dithiacyclohexene-(1) or an alcohol adduct thereof and a small quantity of ammonia. The process may also be conducted by heating the materials to below 90‹C., when metal complex intermediates are formed which may be isolated and subjected to further heat treatment in substance or on fibres, or textile material to form the dyestuffs. Textile materials specified are cotton and artificial silk. The dyestuffs give blue, violet and black shades and may also be used for pigment printing. Specification 737,413 is referred to. |
