An LCD and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to planarize a surface and thus prevent step generation by not including a solvent in a liquid polymer material for forming an over coating layer. A black matrix layer(62) blocks light of a portion excluding a pixel region on an upper substrate(61). Color filter layers(63a,63b,63c) are formed to represent a color at a portion corresponding to the pixel region. An over coat layer(64a) is formed flat on an entire surface of the upper substrate including the color filter layer by hardening a liquid polymer material including no solvent. A common electrode is formed on an entire surface of the upper substrate. |
