The method involves obtaining (900) a data packet transmitted by a source device or a destination device. Information representative of loss rate of the packet on a part of a transmission path between the source and destination devices is obtained (902). A transmission mode is selected (908) from a first transmission mode using a single transport protocol, and a second transmission mode using transport protocols encapsulating without and with acknowledgment. The packet is transmitted by enabling the selected transmission mode. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a storage medium comprising a set of instructions for implementing a method for management of data stream transmitted by a source device toward a destination device (2) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions for implementing a method for management of data stream transmitted by a source device toward a destination device (3) a destination device for managing data stream transmitted by a source device.
