The tower (10) has a heat exchange body (18), and a power supply circuit (14) that is provided with a fluid distribution unit i.e. tube (22), for distributing fluid i.e. coolant such as water, for exchanging heat. A circulation pump (36) is utilized for providing movement to a dispensing unit. A frequency variator (42) is utilized for controlling flow rate of the circulation pump for driving the pump as function of outside temperature. The pump is provided with an electric motor (38), where speed of rotation of the motor is controlled by the frequency variator. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a cooling tower.
