In the method of manufacturing a green tyre: - a calender forms, in a gap (24) between two rollers (16, 18) a ply (4) containing a first rubber compound (28), the calender forming a bulge upstream of the gap, and, simultaneously: - the bulge and the gap are fed with a second rubber compound of different composition from the first rubber compound, so as to form within the ply at least one insert (14) made of the second rubber compound.
