摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material which has a good thermal stability and a high charge and discharge capacity when used as a positive electrode material of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a method for manufacturing a lithium nickel composite oxide expressed by the general formula, LiNi<SB POS="POST">x</SB>M<SB POS="POST">1-x</SB>O<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, where x meets the requirement (4-Z)x&ge;0.75 when the average valence of Ni is denoted by Z, and M represents at least one kind of additional element such that the average valence of M as a whole is 3.375 or more. The method comprises: (1)a crystallization step for adding an alkali solution to a mixed aqueous solution of Ni salt and M salt to obtain a composite hydroxide Ni<SB POS="POST">x</SB>M<SB POS="POST">1-x</SB>(OH)<SB POS="POST">2</SB>; (2) a calcination step for mixing the composite hydroxide with lithium compound such that the molar ratio of Li/(Ni+M) is 1.00 to 1.15, and calcining the resultant mixture at a temperature between 700&deg;C or more and 1000&deg;C or less; and (3) a water-washing step for washing a resultant lithium nickel composite oxide by water. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
