PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition for forming a lubricating mold-release surface layer on an operating surface of a metal base configuring a mold, wherein the lubricating mold-release surface layer is high in adhesiveness and is excellent in heat resistance, pressure resistance and durability.

SOLUTION: The coating composition for forming the lubricating mold-release surface layer includes: a base (A) comprising 70-90 mass% hydrocarbon oil and 5-15 mass% silicone oil; a surface layer-forming component (B) comprising 2.0-8.0 mass% vinyl group-containing polysiloxane and 2.0-8.0 mass% alkyltrialkoxysilane; and a thixotropy-imparting agent (C).
