The invention relates to an adjuvant for reducing Cr (VI) ions to Cr (III) ions comprising an aqueous solution of a combination of iron (II) and a polysaccharide or a salt thereof and also to the preparation method thereof. It also relates to a method for preparing a material having a reduced content of chromium (VI). It finally relates to the use of said adjuvant for the reduction of chromium (VI) ions to chromium (III) ions.
