The method involves increasing rotation speed of a drum (2) of a laundry treatment apparatus (1) on an objective rotation speed. A value of an evaluation size is detected with variables, where one of the variables represents loading of the drum for a fixed value. The loading of the drum is determined from correlation of the detected value of the evaluation size with the loading. An imbalance is determined by a difference of a local maximum and a local minimum of the rotation speed. A motor (6) is controlled using a firmly stamped control manipulated variable. An independent claim is also included for a laundry treatment apparatus.
