The invention relates to a solar updraft power plant (01) and to a method for operating the solar updraft power plant (01). The solar updraft power plant (01) has a tower shaft (02) having a shaft base (05) at the bottom end of the tower shaft and a turbine (03) arranged in the tower shaft (02) for generating electrical energy. During nominal operation, an air mass flow (21) flows through an inlet opening (06) into the shaft base (05), wherein an air flow (22) in the shaft base (05) has an elevated temperature compared to the surrounding air, whereby an upwardly directed air flow (22) develops in the tower shaft (02), which air flow drives the turbine (03). Henceforth, an essential characteristic is that a pressing, in particular cold air mass flow (21) is introduced into the shaft base (05).
