The invention relates to a disinfectant composition comprising a) a quaternary ammonium salt of the general formula (Ib)and optionally, an amine of the general formula (Ia) where R1 is C6.. 18-alkyl, R2 is benzyl or C6 - 18-alkyl, R3 is Ci 1 8 -alkyl or -[(CH 2)2 -0]nR6 where n = 1-20, R4 and Rs independently of one another are CI..4 -alkyl, R6 is hydrogen or unsubstituted or substituted phenyl and A- is a monovalent anion or one equivalent of a polyvalent anion of an inorganic or organic acid; and b)at least one alkanolamine of the general formula (II), where m and, if present, o and p independently of one another have the value 2 or 3, and x and y independently of one another have the value 0 or 1, or a corresponding salt; in the mass ratio (I):(II) of 20:1 to 1:20. Compositions of the invention may find application as bactericidal and/or fungicidal agents suitable for use as both disinfectants and preservative agents. |
