PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for debugging a processing element (or a plurality of elements) in a stream-based application.

SOLUTION: There is provided a technique for debugging a processing element (or a plurality of elements) in a stream-based application so as to reduce an influence of debugging of the processing element (or the plurality of elements) on the whole environment in operation by selectively merging (or not merging) processing elements operating on computation nodes in one group. In addition to the merging and non-merging of the processing elements and changing of a state of the stream application with other methods, a debugging application and a stream manager changes a data flow in an application stream with various methods to minimize confusion caused as a result of a debugging session.
