<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display device capable of arranging an illumination optical system and a projection optical system with space saving. <P>SOLUTION: A projection type video display device 100 includes a housing 200 for housing an illumination optical system 310, a projection optical system 320, and a cooling device 330. The housing 200 includes an arrangement space 400 including a first arrangement space 410 and a second arrangement space 420. The projection optical system 320 is arranged in the first arrangement space 410. At least a part of the illumination optical system 310 and the cooling device 330 are arranged in the second arrangement space 420.
